At its meeting on 27 May 2021, the delegation heard an update from the European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, on the EU assistance to St Vincent-and-the-Grenadines which was severely hit by a volcano eruption in April. It also held an exchange of views on the pandemic situation and vaccination cooperation between the EU and the Cariforum countries, with the Ambassador of Trinidad & Tobago to the EU, the Executive Director of the Caribbean Public Health Agency, and the representative from DG INTPA of the European Commission.

General documents - Meeting of 12 November 2020 - Delegation to the Cariforum-EU Parliamentary Committee

At its meeting on 12 November, the delegation held two exchanges of views : the first one with DG DEVCO, the EEAS and the Chair of the EP delegation to Eurolat PA on the impact of the covid-19 pandemic in the region. This exchange of views focused on the specificities of the Cariforum region and the heavy consequences for these countries, but also on the multifaceted short and long term EU assistance. The second exchange of views with DG TRADE focused on the state of implementation of the Economic Partnership Agreement, and the draft recommendations - from a study to be finalised soon - for its possible update.

General documents - Réunion du 12 Novembre 2020 - Delegation to the Cariforum-EU Parliamentary Committee

Lors de sa réunion du 12 Novembre, la délégation a procédé à deux échanges de vues : le premier avec la DG DEVCO, le SEAE et le Président de la Délégation PE à l'AP Eurolat, sur l'impact de la pandémie de Covid-19 dans la région. Cet échange de vues a permis de faire le point sur la spécificité de la région Cariforum et les lourdes conséquences payées par ces pays, mais aussi sur l'assistance multiforme, de court et de long terme, fournie par l'Union européenne. Le second échange de vues, avec la DG TRADE, a porté sur l'état de mise en œuvre de l'Accord de Partenariat Economique, et les propositions de recommandations - contenues dans une étude à paraître prochainement - qui pourraient guider sa mise à jour.

At its meeting of 2 March 2020 D-CAR Delegation, chaired by Mr Stéphane BIJOUX, debated two highly topical issues: the impact of climate change to the Caribbean region and the progress of Post-Cotonou negotiations. Dr Dylan VERNON, the Ambassador of Belize and Dr Len ISHMAEL, the former Ambassador of Eastern Caribbean States gave their views on the biggest challenges ahead for the Caribbean related to climate change and the possibilities for Caribbean-EU cooperation in that field. Ambassador of Jamaica, Ms Sheila Sealy MONTEITH, who is currently a coordinator of the Caribbean group of Ambassadors in Brussels, presented her assessment of Post-Cotonou negotiations.

The first substantial meeting of this legislature took place on 18 December 2019 in Strasbourg. The newly appointed D-CAR Members exchanged views with the Commission and the EEAS on the political context in the Caribbean region and the state of play of the implementation of the CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement.

General documents - Meeting with Ambassadors, 12 December 2019 - Delegation to the Cariforum-EU Parliamentary Committee

An informal meeting with Ambassadors from the Cariforum countries was hosted by the Chair of the Delegation to the Cariforum-EU Parliamentary Committee, Mr Stéphane Bijoux, on 12 December 2019. This first introductory meeting was an excellent opportunity for the newly elected delegation chair Mr Bijoux and other delegation members to meet the heads of missions of Cariforum countries and to discuss future cooperation and common interests between the two regions.
